Construction is officially underway on the Grand Traverse Greenway Trail in Flint, marking another important step toward expanding non-motorized transportation and recreation opportunities throughout the community.
Phase one of the project will begin at Kearsley Street, where the trail will connect with the new state park in Flint, and continue south to Fenton Road near I-69. Construction on the first phase is expected to be completed by the end of September.
The project is part of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation’s commitment to expanding non-motorized trails throughout Flint and Genesee County over the next five years. The growing trail network is intended to create stronger connections between neighborhoods, parks, destinations, and communities while providing residents with more opportunities to walk, bike, and enjoy the outdoors.
The Grand Traverse Greenway is also part of Michigan’s Iron Belle Trail, a statewide trail system stretching approximately 2,000 miles from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula.
As work continues, the project represents another major investment in creating a more connected Flint and Genesee County.
